Each Club Has More Than One Purpose

Here are the distances and ways I like to hit my clubs:

Driver:

• Typically used to hit shots 250 yards plus
• Used off the tee whenever possible
• Carry must be less than 245 yards
• This is my favorite club

 

3 Wood:

• Typically used to hit shots between 220 and 245 yards
• Mostly used on short par 4’s off the tee when the fairway is narrow
• Carry is minimum 220yds

 

Rescue 19:

• Typically used to hit shots between 200 and 215 yards
• Can be used to pitch and run around the green
• Mostly used on par 5’s 2^nd shot or tee shot on short par 4’s when the fairway is narrow

 

Rescue 22:

• Typically used to hit shots between 190 and 205 yards
• Can be used to pitch and run around the green
• Mostly used on par 5’s off the tee or for the 2^nd shot

 

5 Iron:

• Typically used to hit shots between 175 to 190 yards
• Can be used to pitch and run around the green
• Mostly hit on long par 3’s and short par 5’s for the second shot

 

6 Iron:

• Typically used to hit shots between 165 to 180 yards
• Can be used to pitch and run around the green
• Mostly used on long par 3’s and short par 5’s
• Often used for trouble shooting

 

7 Iron:

• Typically used to hit shots between 150 to 165 yards
• Can be used to pitch and run around the green
• Mostly used on par 3’s, long par 4’s and short par 5’s
• Often used for trouble shooting

 

8 Iron:

• Typically used to hit shots between 140 to 150 yards
• Also used to pitch and run around the green
• Mostly used on par 3’s and long par 4’s\
• This is a drill club

 

9 Iron:

• Typically used to hit shots between 130 to 140 yards
• Can be used to pitch and run around the green
• Mostly used on par 3’s, 4’s and for chipping and running
• This is also a drill club

 

PW:

• Typically used to hit shots between 115 and 130 yards
• Can be used to pitch and run around the green
• Mostly used on par 4’s and chipping and running

 

SW 50:

• Typically used to hit shots between 105 and 120 yards
• Can be used to pitch and run around the green
• Mostly used on short par 4’s and long par 5’s
• This club is very useful at 100 yards and when it is very windy

 

SW 54:

• Typically used to hit shots between 85 and 105 yards
• Can be used to pitch and run around the green
• Mostly used on short par 4’s and long par 5’s
• This is very useful in all types of lies and around the green
• Often used out of the bunker

 

SW 60:

• Typically used to hit shots up to 90 yards
• Usually chosen if the ball needs to stop quickly
• Can also be used around the green for a pitch and run
• Mostly used on short par 4’s and long par 5’s
• Often used out of the bunker
• I love the way this club feels in my hands

 

Putter:

• Typically is used on or close to the putting surface
• This is the club that wins golf tournaments!
• I spend 70% of my practice time on short game and 70% of that tim is on putting.
• I love to make putts!
